From Pragmatics to Syntax

This collection of papers from the international Conference at the University of Pavia (2 - 4 December 1993) deals with topics concerning the ways of expressing modality in first and second language acquisition. some papers exploring theoretical and descriptive aspects of modality are also included. the contributions in this understanding of the relations between semantic functions of modality and pragmatic functions in discourse.
