This volume brings together the papers and lectures given at a conference held at the University of British Columbia in September 2006, the first one held in North America to address the relationship between libertinism and literature in seventeeth-century France. Sessions were devoted to La Fontaine, Molière, and La Mothe le Vayer as well as to libertinism in poerty, the novel and the theatre. The texts studied include Molière´s Tartuffe, Cyrano de Bergerac´s La Mort d´Agrippine, and La Mothe Le Vayer´s Hexaméron rustiques.
