Semiotics of Popular Music

The book aims to point out the most important linguistic and musical mechanisms of popular music and to describe the potential emotional and sociological impact of this particular genre of music on the listener. The individual analyses and subsequent comparisons of some 20 maintream pop songs clearly stress the importance of the synergetic principle between lyrics and music, taking account of typical musical features (such as song structure, melody, rhythm, tempo, arrangement, motif, and vocal delivery) as well as lyrical components (like register, rhymes, poetic and rhetorical devices).
