The Development of Morphological Systematicity

the main emphasis of this collection of parpers is on the systematic sapects of the (first- as well as second - language) acquisition of morphology in languages with different typological properties. the various contributions to this volume cover inflectional and derivational phenomena from such diverse languages as Hebrew, Spanish, Warlpiri, Italian, French, German, Swedish, English. Three of the chapters focus on morphological development in pidgin/creole languages, especially Tok Pisin and Krio. an overview of the essential issues of morphological theory shows that the results of these studies have many implications for linguistic and cognitive theory and how they they relate to controversial questions like the rule/analogy problem and the module vs. network model. The interface nature of morphology is characterized from various perspectives.
